Learn more about each of the recipients from a short interview below:

"Participating in the International Negotiation Competition as a representative of Singapore was a meaningful and transformative experience. This opportunity allowed me to hone my skills in negotiation, while proudly representing my country on a global stage.

The recognition and commendations my team and I received hold immense significance for me. Beyond the realm of academic achievements, this journey provided me with invaluable exposure to cross-cultural negotiation and expanded my global network by connecting with accomplished students from diverse backgrounds. It was heartening to receive praise from fellow students, judges, and organisers, which underscored the exceptional approach and teamwork my team demonstrated, both onstage and offstage.

It has been an amazing journey and these achievements would not be possible without the help and support of the SUSS faculty, the alumni INC team and my teammates. I feel extremely blessed and privileged to be a part of one of the pioneering batches involved in CDR from SUSS. This opportunity has allowed us to showcase the strengths of SUSS law students and hopefully inspire others to reach their potential.

Receiving the National SIMI-SMU CDR Award has further reinforced my commitment to continuously refine my skills, learn from others and contribute to the advancement of CDR to shape the future Singaporean teams. I look forward to embracing future opportunities and challenges to further develop the skills and knowledge I have acquired.

Ms Felicia Leong, October 2023

"My introduction to the world of CDR was born out of curiosity and an insatiable desire to learn. It began in the year 2021 when I took part in the APIIT International Negotiation Competition. This experience was a life-changing one, reshaping my perspectives of CDR and leading me down a remarkable path that I walk with newfound purpose and enthusiasm. As I joined the SMU Mediation and Negotiation Club (“SMNC”), I became part of a community of like-minded individuals dedicated to fostering an interest and passion in the art of CDR, and over the past 2 years, I have had the privilege of contributing to various facets of our club’s mission, and participating and doing well in various competitions such as the CDRC Vienna 2023.

As a team, we developed the International ADR Competition Fund to set students up for success - by sourcing for sponsorship opportunities, we increase accessibility to CDR competitions among students, who will be equipped to thrive on a global level. I am proud to say that my team has helped SMU in achieving its most successful CDR competition season to date this year, especially with borders opening and more students travelling abroad to join competitions.

I am truly honored to receive the National SMU-SIMI CDR Award this year. This recognition serves as a reminder that my journey in CDR is not just a personal pursuit but a commitment to inspire and mentor the next generation of mediators and negotiators. It's a responsibility I wholeheartedly embrace, and for every challenge, take as an opportunity to grow and excel. This also reflects my motto in life - embrace every challenge as an opportunity to grow and excel."
